Deleting Cookies: Windows: AOL

Reminder: You should not delete all cookies without understanding the possible consequences of doing so. The details are available in this post.

Furthermore, following the "Deleting all cookies" instructions will also clear your cache, which will temporarily slow your browser's performance and increase your bandwidth consumption. If you're unsure, you should only delete LiveJournal cookies. This is a slightly more complicated process, but your peace of mind is probably worth the few extra clicks.

AOL 4 and 5

-- Deleting all cookies

  • Click MY AOL, and select Preferences on the AOL menu bar.
  • Click the WWW button.
  • Click the General tab.
  • Click the Settings button.
  • Click the View Files button. The window may take a couple of minutes to load.
  • Click Edit on the toolbar, and select Select All.
  • Click File, and select Delete.
  • Close and relaunch your browser.

-- Deleting LiveJournal cookies only

  • Click MY AOL, and select Preferences on the AOL menu bar.
  • Click the WWW button.
  • Click the General tab.
  • Click the Settings button.
  • Click the View Files button. The window may take a couple of minutes to load.
  • Click the "Internet Address" column. This will sort the files by internet address.
  • In that column, look for the entry Cookie:username@www.livejournal.com where username is your username. If you have multiple usernames, the one causing the problem is the one you should delete. Normally you will only have the one cookie, for the username you most recently logged in with.
  • Select the file. Note that you will need to click on the filename in the Name column, rather than the Internet Address column to do this.
  • Click Delete.
  • A window will appear saying "WARNING. Are you sure you want to delete the selected Cookie(s)?" Click Yes.
  • Close and relaunch your browser.
