The Netscape cache does not lend itself to easily identifying where a cached file came from. The files are usually located in C:/Program Files/Netscape/Users/profilename/Cache (where profilename is the name of your user profile). However, there is no real identification of the source of a file. It is possible to manually open each file and find the relevant one, but for most users it will be more efficient to empty the cache.

Opera

  • Locate Preferences. In early versions, this will be a top menu. In later versions it is found under File.
  • Select Cache.
  • Click "Empty Now."

To delete selectively from the cache in Opera, you need a freeware program called Opera File Explorer. There is one version for Opera 3.62 and below, and another for Opera 4 and above. You can obtain this program zipped here. To install it, simply create a new folder in your Opera directory, extract the files to that directory, and run the program file. Once the program is up and running, the procedure for cookie management is the same for both.

  • Close Opera, and open Opera File Explorer.
  • Click File--Open.
  • Click Cache.
  • Select the Cache file. This is usually dcache4.url in the Opera/Cache4 directory.
  • Select all files from site www.livejournal.com and livejournal.com.
  • Click shift+delete.
  • Close and relaunch your browser.

Mozilla

The Mozilla cache does not lend itself to easily identifying where a cached file came from. The files are usually located below C:/Windows/Application Data/Mozilla/. However, there is no real identification of the source of a file. It is possible to manually open each file and find the relevant one, but for most users it will be more efficient to empty the cache.
